The Lumecca™ IPL (intense pulsed light) laser uses photo-thermolysis through the delivery of specific wavelengths of light which interact with red and brown pigments in the skin. These pigments absorb the light and are destroyed, often in one session.
You may experience some possible skin changes like darkening of areas, swelling, and redness for about a week. This may be noticeable socially, but this shouldn’t stop you from your every day life.

BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE
• 3-4 weeks: Avoid sun exposure (tans/burns/tanning beds/spray tans)
• 7-10 days: Avoid taking NSAIDS (Aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.), Vitamin E, Fish oil, Gingko Biloba, Ginseng, and St. John’s Wart to reduce your risk of bruising and swelling.
• 1 week: avoid retinols/tretinoins, glycolic/salicylic acids.
• 2-3 weeks: Avoid any irritant topical agents
• 2 days before: Avoid consuming alcohol and/or smoking.
• Ensure that your skin is clean and free from lotions the day of your treatment.
• Shave any areas being treated the day of your treatment.
WHAT TO EXPECT
• Lumecca is a powerful intense pulsed light (IPL), a layer of cool gel will be applied to the treatment areas.
• During the treatment there will be a bright light and a mild snap feeling on your skin, but should not feel
painful. You will be wearing goggles to block your vision from the light.
• You may need up to 2-5 treatments every 3-4 weeks to achieve your desired results.
AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE
• A mild sunburn-like sensation is expected, this typically lasts 2-24 hours but can persist up to 72 hours.
You can apply a cold compress for 10-15 minutes every hour for the next few hours if needed.
• Your brown and red spots will get darker for the first several days (up to 7) and then start to slough off. Do NOT pick at the treated areas, allow it to shed naturally.
• You may cleanse your skin and use moisturizer on day 1, you may also apply makeup as usual.
• Do not use any exfoliation creams for 7 days to allow for natural sloughing.
• Sunscreen should be used for at least 3 weeks following your treatment. Avoid sun and tanning exposure.
